Is the Nespresso Vertuo worth it? An honest look
Pod coffee is convenient, but is it worth it over a proper machine? We weigh up the Nespresso Vertuo Pop against the cheaper long game.

Pod machines are everywhere, and the Nespresso Vertuo Pop is one of the cheapest ways in. But is pod coffee actually worth it, or are you better off with a proper machine? Here is the honest take.
What the Vertuo Pop gets right
Convenience, and a lot of it. Drop in a pod, press a button, walk away with a decent coffee in under a minute, and there is almost nothing to clean. For a busy morning, a small kitchen, or someone who just wants caffeine without a ritual, it is genuinely great. The machine itself is cheap, too.

The catch nobody mentions: the pods
The machine is cheap. The pods are not. Vertuo pods only come from Nespresso and a few licensed brands, and over a year of daily coffees they add up to far more than the machine cost. That is the real price of pod convenience, and it is worth doing the sums before you buy.
The alternative: a cheap real machine
If you drink a couple of coffees a day, a proper pump espresso machine pays for itself against pods within a year, and the coffee is better. The DeLonghi Dedica is slim, cheap, and makes genuinely good espresso from normal ground coffee that costs a fraction of pods.

So, is the Vertuo worth it?
- Buy the Vertuo Pop if you want maximum convenience, drink coffee occasionally, and do not want to think about it. It is the easiest good coffee you can make.
- Buy a cheap real machine instead if you drink coffee every day and care about the running cost, the pods will out-price the machine quickly.
Neither is wrong. It comes down to convenience now versus cost over time. Prices above are indicative, ranked cheapest first. We may earn a commission on the links at no cost to you, here is how.
