It is the question most Australians quietly ask before buying anything electronic: just order it from Amazon, or walk into JB Hi-Fi? Having compared the same products across both, the honest answer is that neither wins outright, and the gap depends far more on what you are buying than on the shop.
The short answer
- Amazon is usually cheaper on its own devices, small accessories, and anything under about fifty dollars where shipping would otherwise hurt.
- JB Hi-Fi is often competitive or cheaper on big-brand headphones, TVs and laptops, especially during a sale, and you can walk out with it today.
- The gap is frequently under ten dollars, which is small enough that delivery speed, warranty handling and stock availability matter more.
Where Amazon genuinely wins
Amazon prices its own hardware lower than anyone, because it makes money on what you do with the device afterwards. Nobody consistently beats Amazon on a Fire TV Stick or an Echo.
Small accessories are the other clear win. A mouse, a cable, a power bank: these are the items where a physical retailer's margin is highest and Amazon's is thinnest.

Where JB Hi-Fi holds its own
On flagship audio and TVs, JB Hi-Fi is frequently level with Amazon and sometimes under it, particularly during their regular sales. They also price-match in many cases, which quietly closes the gap if you ask.
There are three things you get from JB that a delivery cannot match: you can have it today, returns are a conversation at a counter rather than a shipping label, and warranty claims on an expensive item are simpler when there is a store to walk into.

The thing most comparisons get wrong
Shipping. A sticker price is not what you pay. An item that is five dollars cheaper but charges nine dollars delivery is not cheaper, and plenty of comparisons quietly ignore that.

So which should you buy from?
Buy from Amazon if it is an Amazon device, a small accessory, or the delivered total is clearly lower and you are not in a hurry.
Buy from JB Hi-Fi if it is an expensive item you might need to return, you want it today, or the price is within about ten dollars, at which point the easier warranty is worth more than the difference.
